Trader of the week: Chris Westbury of C. Westbury Key Cutters and Shoe Repairs

THE Trader of the Week this week is Chris Westbury from C. Westbury Shoe Repair and Key Cutting.

The store is based in the Homend of Ledbury and therefore in the center of the whole city.

It has been a staple of the city in its current location for nine years, although the business has been around for over 30 years.

It all started when Chris left Malvern school at the age of 16 and started a YTS (Youth Training Scheme). Chris learned all about shoe repair in five years and unfortunately the man he worked for went bankrupt.

Chris decided to take over most of the specialist equipment needed for shoe repair and key cutting and set up himself.

Homend’s store is run by his good friend Matt Morris, whom Chris pays tribute to for making the business a success.

They take care and pride themselves in their work, hand-sewing shoes to mend them.

“We don’t use staples here,” Chris said.

It is this attention to detail and quality that made Chris and Matt popular in Ledbury and they now offer a wide range of services for the city.

If you want a trophy engraving Chris can do it for you, using the latest technology or he can cut almost any key with a hair’s precision.

They also do house and vehicle keys and watch repairs.

One of Chris’s strangest requests is to have a shovel burned.

Chris recently graduated as a locksmith and plans to start a locksmith business in the coming months. A mobile service will include cutting the keys to the vehicle and the house, as well as general locksmith work to come in the coming months once the van has been fitted out.

“It was a natural progression for me to do locksmithing,” said Chris.

Ledbury has been good for Chris and the business.

“Ledbury is a beautiful place and we have a lot of repeated customs. I think after covid people are more inclined to buy locally and support local stores.
