Obituary of Peter Gongas (1944 – 2021) – Danvers, MA

DANVERS – Mr. Peter A. Gongas, 77, of Danvers, beloved husband of Georgia (Frazier) Gongas, died on Saturday, December 4, 2021 in Beverly Hospital, following a fight with Covid-19 .
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (O’Leary) Gongas. He was brought up and educated in Danvers and graduated from the former Holten High School in Danvers.
Mr. Gongas had worked for over 25 years for the State of Massachusetts at Danvers State Hospital in the Facilities Division until retirement. He used his skills as a welder, roofer and metallurgist, and also took care of all daily maintenance needs around the facility.
A longtime resident of the town of Danvers, Peter was devoted to his family. He was the proud grandfather of his four beloved grandchildren, and he and his wife, Georgia, devoted their time to raising them. He enjoyed road trips with his beloved wife, New Hampshire and Maine, and spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee. Peter enjoyed tending his garden, cooking his famous meatballs and socializing on Saturday nights. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed touring the shooting range with his longtime friend, Malcom Hayes. Above all, her family always came first.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of over 50, Georgia (Frazier) Gongas of Danvers, his sons, Peter Gongas Jr of Hollywood, FL, Christopher Gongas and his partner, Julie Murphy of Lynn, Arthur Gongas of Contoocook , NH, and Matthew Gongas and Cheryl Cummings of Danvers, and his grandchildren, Makayla, Madison, Mia and Milanna.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be at the Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart Street, Danvers, on Monday, December 13 at 11 a.m. Parents and friends invited.
