Kinky pervert pretends to be schoolgirl online for sex chat with kids

A pedophile posed as a young schoolgirl on the internet to have sexual conversations with other underage children, a court has heard.

Oliver Betts obtained indecent photos of the schoolgirl, who was found by police through her uniform in some images from her cell phone.

Prosecutor Abigail Hill said officers learned that nude and sexual images of the girl had been distributed to others, mostly children, to encourage indecent conversations – although he did not been charged with sexual communications with them.

The 38-year-old accused learned that the police wanted to speak to him and deleted evidence – some of which was recovered during the analysis of his phone.

Leicester Crown Court heard that the schoolgirl in the illegal footage was 15 when police located her and she identified 20 indecent images, including five videos, of herself – at least one when she was 12 years old.

She did not disclose how the accused came into possession of the footage, although their phone numbers were on each other’s phones.

Miss Hill said the accused created a fake social media profile claiming to be the schoolgirl, albeit using a false name, and sent some of the indecent pictures to other girls, who believed he was a schoolgirl wishing to discuss sexual matters.

Betts denied any wrongdoing when questioned and claimed “someone else” must have created the girl’s fake profile on social media.

The court heard that the young girl no longer trusted people and had become silent and withdrawn.

Her mother would have been “devastated” and her daughter would have been taken advantage of.

Betts, of Syston, whose former bail address was listed in court as being on Broad Street, admitted three counts of possession of indecent images of a child, involving 20 images, ranging from categories A to C.

He admitted five counts of disseminating an indecent photograph, one in the most serious category, category A, one in category B and three in category C, between January and April last year.

Judge Mark Watson said the accused had “blamed” some sad events in his life for his offense.

He added: “She knows her parents know she sent you nude pictures – and the pictures are on the internet for the whole world to see.

“This is no ordinary case of the genre, it’s made worse by the way the images have been used to persuade other girls to engage in sexualized conversations.

“You are not accused of communicating with other girls, but I cannot ignore it. As a result, you lost your job. Only immediate custody can be justified.”

Mitigating Rebecca Barrowcliffe said the accused went through “a rough patch” with his ex-partner at the time.

She added: “He has realized that this has to stop and he accepts that he turned off the ignition and deleted information.

“He says it got out of hand and he’s disgusted with himself.

“The behavior ended when the police intervened.

“Before that he was a hard working family man and he was fired from his job as an engineer / metallurgist.

“He knows he let everyone down.

Betts was jailed for 20 months.

He was subject to a Sexual Injury Prevention Order for 10 years.
