James Franklin Beckett, 82, of Belington, died after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington.

He was born in Cedarville on March 6, 1939, the son of the late William Franklin Beckett and Beatrice Facemire Beckett Miller. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by three siblings: David Miller, Gary Beckett and Marchetia Cottrill.

On January 13, 1990, James married Ruth Ann Row Mitchell and together they shared over 31 wonderful years of marriage.

His wife, Ruth Ann Row Mitchell Beckett of Belington, cherishes memories of James’ hardworking nature forever; six children: Kimberly Bailey from Aurora, IN, DeAnna Haught from New Symrna Beach, FL, Kristina Bilby and husband, Fred, from Berlin Heights, OH, Raenette Sanders and husband, Barry, from West Lake, OH, Bryan Mitchell and companion , Michelle Rukavina, of Belington, WV, and Traci Mitchell of Belington, WV; thirteen grandchildren: Aimee, Jill, Wayne, Devin, Travis, Kyla, Benjamin, Jordan, Jacob, Madelyn, Angelo, Andrea and Ashlee; seven great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; three siblings: Jeff Beckett and his wife, Tina, of Newton Falls, OH, Mike Beckett of Corapolis, PA, and Linda Gargasz and her husband, Ed, of Amherst, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

James graduated from Normantown High School in 1958. He then joined the United States Marine Corps. where he proudly served his country from 1958 to 1962 as a rifle and pistol instructor. Upon graduation, James worked as a body painter for Ford Motor Company, sheet metal worker and welder for DL ​​Paige, and owned Beckler Energy for several years. He was a member of the NRA and the Deerfield Country Club. James was an avid golfer and loved spending the day on the green with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, both at home and abroad. James did drag races, track circuits, and took great pleasure in restoring old cars. He had a strong will and will be missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 2397 US Hwy 19N in Jane Lew at noon on October 13, 2021, with Pastor Holt Poling as officiant. Full military honors will be awarded by the United States Marine Corps and the Lewis County Honor Guard. Interment will follow.
