Grant Paterson obituary

1954 – 2021

Thomas Grant Paterson died on September 15, 2021 at his home in Cranbrook, British Columbia.

Grant was born and raised in Creston, British Columbia. He spent much of his adult life in Elkford, British Columbia, where he raised his family while working as a heavy equipment operator and Fording River operations trainer. After more than 40 years of service, he moved to Cranbrook for his retirement.

Grant was well known for his pristine lawn, but he was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and nature photography. He tied his own flies and was good at woodworking, welding, and locksmithing. You could often find him driving his Harley-Davidson or jeeping up the river to go fishing, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren, spoiling them with candy at every opportunity. If anyone needed help, they were always the first to show up with the right tool in hand.

Grant is survived by his partner Lorri Moulton, his daughters Melanie Paterson (David Dyck) and Kayla Paterson (Kenton Hemsing), his grandchildren Declan Dyck, Elsie Paterson-Hemsing and Sybil Paterson-Hemsing, and his sister Karen Andrew (Paterson ).

Grant was predeceased by his father George Thomas Paterson, his mother Mable Irene Paterson (Watkins) and his sister Kristy Paterson of Creston, British Columbia.

No service will be held according to his wishes. Memorial donations can be made to Angel Flight East Kootenay Association, 4360 Cokato Road, Fernie, BC, VOB 1M4 or online at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/angel-flight-east-kootenay-association.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Grant’s friends and healthcare workers.
