Chico Police Recover Stolen Goods From Moving Truck, Arrest Suspected Thief – Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO – An out-of-state family had their moving truck and belongings stolen from a motel in Chico on Saturday before the Chico Police Department spotted stolen goods from an apartment complex and arrested a man.

The vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot of the Best Western Heritage Inn in Chico on Saturday night, according to a press release from the Chico Police Department. The moving van belonged to a family who stopped in Chico overnight for a stopover during their trip.

The next morning at around 10 a.m., a Chico police officer found the moving truck backed up in a parking lot at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Ceres Avenue.

Simultaneously, the Chico Police Department dispatch received 9-1-1 reports describing “suspicious” subjects removing a lumber rack from a work truck with the words “Chico Building Supply” on it in a nearby neighborhood and loading a property into a utility trailer, the release says. Police determined that the work truck and log rack were recently stolen.

Hubburt

Witnesses and vehicle owners attempted to arrest those involved, before police intervened and arrested a man identified as 32-year-old Michael Hubburt.

Police said Hubburt was the suspect in the aforementioned incident, and also said the property stolen from the rental moving truck, in addition to the stolen motor vehicle property and burglaries, was in Hubburt’s possession.

Police said Hubburt was also in possession of burglary tools and important locksmith tools.

Hubburt was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. Hubburt was then taken to the Butte County Jail on Sunday before being released on bail later that afternoon.

The Chico Police Department urges witnesses or persons with security camera recordings of the incident to contact the department at 897-4911.
